Okay so I decided to make Tikvah a petti skirt for Christmas. She is 6 and loves dress up and make-up, and girly fluff. We are pretty conservative though, and my husband was concerned it may be see through. I explained with all the chiffon it shouldn't be, but even still I made it with the outside all satin.(I think that is what it is :P) Either way this is how I did it. We shall see if she likes comes Christmas. Please keep in mind, I have never made a tutorial before. There are many out there that are way better. But thank you for looking at mine if you do. :)

First I looked on all the different sites at the pictures. Type in free petti skirt pattern on Google and you will find plenty. I didn't really measure out my piece, I kind of eye balled it. That is how i normally work. Lots and lots of strips of chiffon. Then a few larger strips of it, then some larger ones of the satin. then 2 pieces for the waist band. Then I started sewing the ruffle first.
I don't have a rufflier, I hate to gather by hand. There was so much of this I had to figure out something. What I did may not work for you or your machine. I wouldn't know. I experimented and it worked. I held bold sides and pushed it up under the foot so it was bunched. Then I sewed that part slowly. I continued to do this all the way down my strips. it saved a lot of thread too. But again, I don't know if this will work for somebody else or not.

Then I sewed the ruffle to my bottom tier. Then gathered that tier and sewed it to my top tier.

I did the same thing with the satin. Only all the bottom ruffle on both the satin and chiffon is made of the chiffon. I didn't make any ruffle out of satin. Just the tiers. Then I sewed the waist band . After that I ironed on some of that steam lite stuff on the edges and where I was making button hole. Then I sewed the satin side and the chiffon side onto the waist band. then folded it down so it became a skirt.

Then I sewed neared the edge, and further down. Enough space to have my ribbon run through without bunching too much. Then I sewed my ribbon on each side of one piece of elastic. I fed it through using a safety pin.

Water Density Experiment

Water Density Experiment                                                            Homeschooling is such a fun way to learn. There is so much freedom in how far we can take  an experiment or how long we can work on it. The other day my husband started to explain to our kids why oil doesn't mix with water. So today we experimented with water density. There are different versions of this experiment and this is how we did ours.   Things needed : Oil, water, salt, sugar, food coloring, clear glasses or jars, measuring cup. Here's what we did: Step one: Fill three clear jars half way each with warm water. ( Helps the salt and sugar dissolve)  Pour 1/2 cup of salt in the first jar and stir it to mix. Pour 1/2 cup of sugar in the second jar and stir to mix. Leave the third jar with plain fresh water. (Notice the salt in ours didn't fully dissolve but was still more dense then the others.) Step two: Pour 1/2 a cup of vegetable oil into ea
